I was actually standing in front of the broadcast desk as another source had informed us of a new development.

We shouldn't be refuting other people's reporting. That's not what we're trying to do. But we couldn't find anyone that linked Stone's injury with playing fullback on offense.

Many sources refuted Stone was hurt on offense or they confirmed he was hurt as a defensive player.

This day and age, everyone catches rumors, whether you are a mom and pop or the biggest site in the market. The difference now vs. 10 yrs ago is the reporting process gets contaminated from the very beginning. Because a lot of people are willing to run with single source information.

It's why you never say jack shit until you have multiple confirmations of a big breaking news story. Once someone gets on the scent, they might contaminate the reporting process by forcing panic and blowing up a news item before the proper vetting can be done..

We did know plenty about the timing of Stone's injury, where he was last night as they were trying to get a further diagnosis on the injury and that they hadn't yet done the proper imaging to make a long-term diagnosis. That should come into more focus today.

As for everything else, our reporting is our reporting. What we put out is everything we've felt comfortable putting out at this point. But we certainly are prepared for any twists that may still come.
