Golf is an incredible game for a number of reasons, but one of its more unique characteristics is it is one of the only sports where a player can call a penalty on themselves. Tonight my heart broke as I watched Addi call a 4-stroke penalty on herself after discovering her old 50* wedge (which I replaced with a new wedge on Sunday) was accidentally left in her bag. She discovered she had 15 clubs after the 3rd hole of the 9 hole match (at the time she was -1) and without hesitation told her coach and instituted the penalty on herself. In her golf career tonight's 9 hole match will be but a small blip. As her Dad, however, tonight is a night I likely won't ever forget as I was able to watch my daughter tacitly demonstrate not only her integrity and respect for the game but also her respect for the players against whom she competes. It was a tough lesson and evening for sure (particularly since it was probably my fault), but I couldn't be more proud of Addi and how she handled it.
