At tonight’s full Council meeting, Wirral’s Conservative Group voted AGAINST the Labour motion end the public sector pay freeze. Despite their opposition to levelling up the economy, our motion passed 39-19.
Thanks to @J___Williamson@ThomasUsher2 and everyone that has taken the lead on this. No child should ever have to go hungry and it is unbelievable that in the sixth richest country in the world we are even having this discussion #KeepWirralFed
Our Labour Group and Council leader @J___Williamson speaking in a personal capacity on a very emotive issue. We cannot sit back and allow children to go hungry over the holidays. Thank you for speaking out Jan #KeepWirralFed

Congratulations to Janette on being elected as Wirral Labour Group leader this eve. Jan spoke brilliantly at the Leadership hustings event we hosted 11 days ago, selected overwhelmingly by those in attendance as their preferred candidate. Looking forward to working together 🌹
Our Town Hall lights purple this evening in solidarity with the family of George Floyd, as well as those fighting racism every single day #BlackLivesMattter
To all the fantastic residents who been community heroes on Wirral I say this: you have done us proud. You have obeyed the rules however heart breaking it has been for you. You have cared for your loved ones and the wider community. Hold your heads up, you're better than this
As we look to rebuild our economy after the Coronavirus, I'm calling for the implementation a Young Person's Guarantee.
Our young people shouldn't be held back because of a lack of opportunity.

Following today’s announcement on local schools, @WirralNasuwt Secretary Ann Rycroft was able to give us the following statement:
NASUWT welcomes the decision by Wirral Borough Council to adopt a safe approach to widening school opening (1)
It will give schools time to assess what staff are available to work, in line with shielding guidelines, to properly risk assess all aspects of school life and to develop the new systems that will be needed to minimise the risks Covid-19 poses.
@Chris_Spriggs @J___Williamson I’m sure our news article - to be published on the website soon - will unequivocally do this.
<gets pencil and starts scribbling>
The right decision. Thanks to our Labour Group leadership - Pat Hackett, @J___Williamson & Anita Leech as well as Tom Usher, Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Education.
