There are no shortcuts, secrets, or laws of attraction. There is only putting in the reps. Confidence is really just doing the work and then having the faith to trust it. On Jalen Brunson, overcoming fear of failure, and gaining true confidence:

A core insight in my new book is that you perform better when you build an identity house with more than just one room. Side quests and other interests don't hurt, they actually help. It's true for athletes and for all of us: https://t.co/QMMhSCRaNL
Ready to roll! Couldn't ask for a better test of where we're at than a game against a great squad in X!
See you there at the Rugby Pitch right across the field from the high school!

Principle 11: Train Speed, When Training Speed.
Speed & conditioning both matter, but they aren’t the same.
If goal is speed, athletes need high-quality reps, max output, & enough rest to repeat it. Too little rest = conditioning.
Train w/ intention.

Game Day!
The squad is rolling to compete against St Charles in our 4th league match.
Looking to start putting the pieces together into a more cohesive unit.
Excited for the opportunity to compete and grow! Excited to compete against our brothers from St Charles!
The guy squirting water into Zach Ertz’s mouth is Joe O’Pella. He’s an athletic trainer that’s been with the team for over 15 years at this point.
NFL teams don’t really have water boys, athletic trainers are usually the ones responsible for having water on the practice field and during games, but this post is absolutely hilarious.
A guy who rehabbed my ACL tear in my second year, has a masters degree from Pitt, and has years of experience keeping Eagles players healthy and on the field being called a “Waterboy” is crazy, and I’m already giving him shit for it, but good lord this post is so wildly misleading.
Either way, thought I’d clear the air, that the people with Water Bottles during games actually serve much bigger roles on NFL Teams.
Both Watkins (State runners up last year) and Walnut brought an intensity and consistency that were solid lessons for our squad to see and integrate moving forward.
Onward...
First two league matches of the season in the books. Early season results can be ugly as we teach the game, the systems, and the mentalities needed in rugby to newer players. Had to pivot through some key injuries this week as well.
The athletes I work with are elite at getting things done. They love to train, to grind, to check the box. But sometimes, that very strength becomes the problem. The drive to do more can get in the way of doing what matters most.
That’s the difference between a clock approach and a compass approach to your system.
The clock is about time—reps, hours, output. The compass is about direction—priorities, standards, what actually moves the needle.
A lot of people initially default to the clock approach: More swings, more lifts, more film, more work. But without the right direction, you just become more efficient at the wrong things.
Direction is more important than speed.
Don’t just ask yourself, “How much am I doing?” Instead, ask, “Is this actually moving me forward?”
Get the compass right, and let the clock follow.
Try it:
Before your next work block, take a moment to pause. Ask yourself why you’re about to do what you’re about to do. Clarify the purpose behind your actions—let your direction guide your effort.
