A podcast focusing on musical storytelling through Soundtracks in TV and films. Host @Austencello
You can find it on Apple podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon
Loved the choir moments in "Project Hail Mary." The rest of the music was very effective and cool but I will admit that I love a beautiful choir. #ProjectHailMary@DANIELPEMBERTON
A new podcast episode is out for "How to Train Your Dragon." All about the romance this time! (I think the most romantic is ironically the dragons)

Hoping to release the last "How to Train Your Dragon" over the next two weeks after I finish playing St. Matthew's Passion by Bach with my orchestra.
I'm leaning towards doing another period drama episode. Any requests?
I have been listening to the soundtrack of Bridgerton Season 4 on repeat. I love the main theme for the couple of this season and as always, the string writing is just fantastic.
I have a new episode up: a conversation with composer Mikel Hurwitz. We talk about his new documentary "Soul of a Nation" focusing on events in Israel as well as Hallmark movies, creative projects, and more. Enjoy!

Everyone was asking how intense my December was for performances and I can honestly say the beginning of January is much more intense. An orchestra concert, accompanying a student recital, teaching 30-something students, a wedding, and my Dad had a small stroke.
Hello 2026!
Occasionally, I get to speak in person instead of the podcast! I was fortunate enough to speak about Jane Austen Soundtracks (Pride and Prejudice) at the Chicago JASNA Birthday tea this weekend.
@DavidWCollins@SoundtrackDWC Loving the deep dives that you do from Beethoven's 5th in part I to Old English in part II. It's a delight to hear all the history and backstory to such great and beloved music.
This week is a John Powell week between working on another HTTYD episode, seeing Wicked: For Good tomorrow, and then the CSO playing "How to Train Your Dragon" on Saturday. Great way to enjoy Thanksgiving Break.
Happy 30th anniversary to the mini-series of Pride and Prejudice with its wonderful score by Carl Davis. The themes are iconic and to express hunting for husbands and love with the sound of a Beethoven septet and pianoforte is remarkable.
A new episode is up! Back to the music of John Powell's "How to Train Your Dragon" and Hiccup's Fate themes throughout the animated trilogy.

I've got very mixed feelings on the new Superman score. I love the John Williams motif and it was very effective. Yet, I can't help feel that in using this iconic motif, mixed with the idea of electric guitar from Hans Zimmer, there was no space for new themes and ideas.
Getting ready for Soundtrack classes next week. It's fun to revisit my Star Wars playlist and see I can fit 5 podcasts worth of information into one class for Harry Potter.
