Two possible 'sources' for this quote. "The Wrecker" by Robert Louis Stevenson and "The Bishop's Secret" by Fergus Hume. Hume wrote "Mystery of a Hansom Cab" which Bertie checks out of a local library in one of the books. It is a memorable phrase. #thegoldbat
