Mostly because the dev team, nowadays, in general, is actually allowing the characters to show up on the missions instead of doing little and getting all the glory. They also mellowed out their personality just a bit, which worked for me.

2XKO and Riot had a similar situation at CB this year, and it had ~60% DQs, but it didn't reach mainstream.
