The Bayeux Tapestry, a 70 meter long medieval masterpiece created by artisan women, is actually an embroidery in crewel (wool yarn) on a linen ground. Super fascinating discussion of ancient cave paintings. It made me wonder if the painters were particularly artistically talented and therefore valued in their tribes for the (seemingly "supernatural"!!) ability to create realistic images of animals.

I spent two decades teaching graphic design. Bad typography is a big pet peeve for me. Why do people place white text on a yellow background? Lack of contrast makes words unreadable.
At the very least, your words need to be readable! Poor readability hinders communication.

I want to introduce you to Steve. He’s 83. His wife died a few months ago and he comes to this lodge in Spring Mill, Indiana and draws. He taught art in Terre Haute, IN his whole life. He also did courtroom sketches in court cases. In the comments I’ll share some pics from his sketchbook. He was excited when I said I was going to share his sketches with the world.
