For ordinary people, tyranny is a daily bodily reality. When pain is abstract, morality becomes abstract too.

Elites are structurally insulated from consequences. They don’t queue for food, fear midnight knocks, bury children lost to state violence, or watch a lifetime of work dissolve into inflation. For them, “precedent,” “norms,” and “process” are intellectual risks.
