A couple of months ago, I had a work experience student.
We did a deep dive into women-friendly industrial workplaces & turned up Elise Hassan - manageress of Warminster Castle Laundry.
Quite a tale - paralysed parents, Tiger Bay, shipwrecked husbands...

I didn't wake up this morning and expect to be discussing gender politics and Mr Men/Little Miss books live on the radio. But poke the specialist women's historian...

@LRylandEpton@ChippMelissa @ChippMuseum I wasn't allowed Barbie either, and indeed did the same (+ Disney Princess) when my daughter was small. Sindy was fair game though.
For #localhistorymonth I do a series on FB called #wholivedinthebighouse, giving a little insight into the history of bigger properties we pass every day. It's usually fun & lighthearted. Yesterday it wasn't. And some things need saying. #stampitout
@HouseHistorian Yesterday I had one on the 1891 that called someone a "foundry firewoman". I got all excited & wondered if a South Wales ironworks had been incredibly progressive.
No such luck. Mis-transcribed "laundry forewoman".
Still progressive. But, y'know, not as much.
@WomenWhoMadeMe@BBCWiltshire I’m enjoying my copy. I send my parents’ WhatsApp messages asking whether they’ve heard of someone with the same family name, or if they know certain details about Wilts places… and mainly I can’t comprehend how women managed with so many children (and losses).
@laurarawlings@BBCWiltshire It is incredible how tough these women were.
With regards all those kids, I always think of the stories published in Margaret Llewellyn Davies' "Maternity" from 1915. Here's one of them: https://t.co/3OnqCHVN6r
I had a lovely time at @BBCWiltshire yesterday, talking about my brand new book with Sue Davies.
You can hear the interview at 2.41.20

So excited to be part of the #MaudHeath celebrations in & around Chippenham this year. I love researching & writing about women. None are more misunderstood than Maud. 😁
But today I am writing about a c16 alehouse keeper & alleged witch, Edith, in a neighbouring village to her.
VENUE CHANGE
Due to unforeseen circumstances, launch is now in the Barn at The Old Road Tavern, round the corner from Cousin Normans. Other than that, details remain the same.
@ailsaholland Absolutely. Drop me a DM and I'll get it sorted.
Your TedX talk has lived in my head for years & framed how I approach many facets of my practice.

@HouseHistorian Love old ads. My favourite, when researching the beauty influencer for my book, was for a "pasta reducer" that promised to reduce bust size in stout women. But I couldn't work out from the context if it was a cream or a contraption like the Ganesh chin strap.
Launch & signing of my new book - Extraordinary Ordinary Women ~ of North Wiltshire - 6.30pm on Wednesday 10th April at the delightful Cousin Norman's in Union Rd #Chippenham. All welcome.
I'll introduce the book & fabulous women featured to you, then sign & dedicate copies.

We cannot believe #WomensHistoryMonth is almost over. But you can still purchase our lovely new title that highlights fascinating women's stories from north #Wiltshire.
Here is a little something on Amelia from #Malmesbury. https://t.co/KFLYgoOaAQ
