@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt I also believe if a woman’s life is in danger, she should be allowed to receive an elective abortion. I believe that, under the premise abortion is wrong, there can be a way to decrease the demand while also providing women in life threatening positions w care
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt While these instances are devastating, they do not speak to the morality of abortion. abortion cannot fix these issues. Which is why I advocate for not only an end to abortion, but also for greater protection for women and more equitable healthcare resources.
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt However, if abortion is wrong because it jeopardizes a life, it is still wrong even if not having it could cause potential harm.
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt That is extremely saddening. However, I don’t think abortion fixes the problem. Abortion doesn’t make it safer for women to give birth. For me, being prolife involves decreasing the NEED for abortions. We need to fix this issue, regardless of the legality of abortion.
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt Yes, I understand that. Sorry I was trying to be condense but I apologize if I sounded misinformed. However, my main point is that I do not believe those abortions should be allowed because in many cases they are not about medical emergencies, as you claimed.
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt However, this law extends to other causes of death as well, including manslaughter or unintentional killings (i.e. car accidents)
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt It is such a tragedy that so many women face greater rates of abuse, violence, and death from the hands of men because of pregnancy. I do acknowledge the rampant nature of this abuse and I feel for the women who have experienced it.
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt And thank you for clarifying. I thought you were saying birth needed to occur for an established life to form. At what point, then, do you think a fetus is a person? And abortions other than reasons of medical emergencies should not be allowed?
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt Technically, Roe legally allows abortions throughout the entire term of the pregnancy. According to the guttmacher institute, third trimester abortions occur for a variety of different reasons. Some having to do with medical emergencies, some having to do with other factors.
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt I don’t know how the medical world refers to the death of a fetus, but I know legally if a pregnant women is murdered the convict is cited for two murders under California law. There is recognition that a fetus possesses the right to life under the law
@atriana @JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt I agree that the rights of a zygote, fetus, or embryo don’t supersede the rights of its mother. I believe however, that a zygote, fetus, or embryo possess the right to life. If a woman’s life is endanger bc of pregnancy, I believe she should be able to receive an abortion
@JudyHaggerty1 @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt I am not for forced vasectomies, but I am for developing better sexual education, creating more equitable healthcare resources for women, allowing for greater maternity leave for women, developing better social programs that assist those living in poverty, and more
@JudyHaggerty1 @atriana @BootsChantilly @imcuriousaboutt However, as zygotes, embryos, & fetuses are naturally developing, to terminate their development and in my opinion, their life, is different from refusing to provide extraordinary sustenance to someone who is going to die.
