@johnwdavis Also, to the extent a smaller than 16 bracket at D1 means that the D2 winner is potentially more highly ranked than it would be with a 16 team D1 (a result propagated through D14), that arguably helps the SS versus the other sections in the State playoff games.
@johnwdavis I think it would make a lot of sense, but it wouldn’t surprise me if CIF-SS has the current system in part to reduce some level of gamesmanship by teams late in the season on the cusp of one division or another. Not knowing the size of D1 reduces that chance.
@HeyCPB@latsondheimer Given the 3 at large Trinity teams in the top 9, Santa Margarita is under .500, so I think they’d be out if it’s an 8 team D1. Which I suppose lends more support to a 10 team (or even 12) D1. Should be interesting tomorrow morning. But I agree, D2 will be awesome.
@HeyCPB@latsondheimer If it’s 8, I don’t think Servite (No. 9) can be a 1 seed. CIF-SS’s playoff rules state that “A playoff division will start with an auto[] qualifier and include all teams until the auto[] qualifier which begins the division below it.” Inglewood’s the next auto.

Long Beach Poly football head coach Stephen Barbee said his team had some incredible playmakers, including receivers and defensive backs. Barbee is looking forward to seeing his young team’s growth during the 2024 season.
Ok, this is amazing:
1/ Canadian and Brazilian players are having a heated chat at the net during the women’s beach volleyball gold medal match
2/ DJ plays John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’
3/ Players look at one another and smile
4/ Crowd starts singing along
Saint Lucia, the only country on earth named after a woman, had zero Olympic medals before Paris.
They are now leaving with a gold and a silver because of this 23 year old woman.
What a story. 🇱🇨
🇺🇸 Brittany Brown (@brittanyshamere) has one of the most motivational stories of the Games for Team USA.
She’s made the most of her running dreams despite never having won a high school state title, NCAA title or signing with a major sponsor out of college. So many people tend to count her out or forget to mention her in pre-race banter before major races but she ALWAYS shows up when it matters.
She’s also been super outspoken about mental health + women’s health.
Last night, she earned a bronze medal in the women’s 200m. 🥉
Here’s what she said afterward:
“It has been long journey to get back on the track, to get back training. Coming back from injury last year it was ver, very hard,.I think sometimes when athletes have injuries, it's like a mental game that you're playing with yourself: ‘How am I going to get back? It’s an Olympic year, and I’ve missed two or three months of training. Is it actually going to happen?’ I am so thankful for my team, my doctors, Coach Johnson, PTs, mental performance coach, pelvic floor therapist. I have everbody. It’s a community of people that have around me that just made me feel fearless out there. I'm just grateful.”
“This one’s for my team, people who all believed in me people, people who doubt me, people who never say my name. I just want people to know that when you say my name, you’re not just saying my name. You’re saying the people’s names that support me. To know that even when people don’t say my name, I have people that love me and support me no matter what. This is for them.
To all the women who deal with health issues. To all the women who have endo, who have PCOS, to any athlete that's reached out to me and said: ‘I am not looked at, the coaches don't pay attention to me.’ And I resonate with them because I am one of them.
And so this is not for me… it's for all the people that support me. All the dark-skinned girls that look like me. And I'm just so grateful that I can be a vessel. I'm so grateful I can be here and be in this moment and be used. Cause it's not about me, it's about the people who look like me, who resonate with my story, and I'm just so grateful to God that I can be here and be in this moment, to be used for something greater and something different.”
