During high school I would often pick up people’s personality traits around me and “try them on for size”, sometimes it ended in cringe, sometimes it felt good and stuck. It’s literally the only way I feel like I can adapt to the outside world, I need to see examples of interactions or emotions and sometimes rehearse them to feel comfortable expressing them around others. Realizing this gave me an intense feeling of imposter syndrome until I realized I can identify with being good at studying/copying behaviors as well as lots of other things. This has been incredibly helpful to stop me from questioning myself when I get inspired by things from artists I look up to and use them within my own work.
