I am very slowly making my way through the Periodic Table in crochet! Earlier this year I decided I'd have more fun if I made a crochet book to go alongside the finished blanket.... which is fun, but means slower progress!

Itโs early days but I needed something to do on those rainy #fieldwork afternoons. Ok, I did it on the sunny ones tooโฆmy first attempt at #knitYourPhD. Merging Fair Isle patterns with my study species, #FalklandsShags
118 elements! I made the final element block for my crochet Periodic Table last week.
I still have to block each element block, attach a name label, add a border, and stitch them all together... but this is a great milestone to have reached!

I just realised I never posted my photos of Katanza - the life sized White-headed vulture I designed and crocheted last year, aka my greatest achievement. She now lives with @HawkConservancy where I received a lot of helpful advice throughout the project!
The design for the blocks is all my own. I started this project first using the C2C crochet method but then I learned Tunisian crochet, and I switched to making the blocks using Tunisian Crochet. I'm much faster and they're a lot smaller so I can buy less yarn!
Progress on my Crochet Periodic Blanket Of The Elements!
I've pinned the blocks on a large blanket to see how they all look together.
I love how colourful it is. The different colours represents different chemical groupings of the Elements.

Some of the blocks have a poorer contrast with the black yarn for the letters and numbers. I think I will outline them with embroidery thread so they can be more easily read!
Itโs done and gifted now! Geologic cross section quilt. Based on a sketch by my partner, designed, pieced, and quilted by me! Pluton and active magma chambers following a fault resulting in an erupting cinder cone in front of a larger dormant volcano.
