Hello fellow kids! Lawyer for tenants, MA in anthro. Twitter is where you learn that the people who share your political ideology are as awful as everyone else
@Allodoxaa yeah you said “ethnic nationalism” - nationalism is related by different. the OP guy said ethnicity AND nation - it’s a strain of socialism that thinks everyone should just assimilate into one culture
what’s more pathetic?
the slobbering racist internet “leftists” responding to this guy because they think anti-semitism is good
or the OP who thinks anti-semitism is bad because it isn’t autistic enough, and leftism is when we abolish ethnicity like the borg
The left has an antisemitism problem. This is bad not because the feelings of Jewish people deserve special consideration, but because it means we as a movement are failing to adopt a clear-headed critical analysis and instead indulge in irrational sentimentalism.
@JesseBrown that said, killing 70k+ people, flattening 5 cities, making 2million homeless - that’s just horrifying to most humans, and it shouldn’t be shocking that the colonizer narrative is a popular way to understand why something so shocking gets a pass from so many jewish people
@JesseBrown there’s a factual history to iron out there - you shouldn’t be shocked that people think supporting israel is racist, and gilmore shouldn’t be shocked that most jews support israel in some fashion or another.
both sides are working on completely different factual realities
@Bram_R now all the israelis and jews think the palestinians can never be trusted, based on this lie.
the 2nd intifada was totally idiotic and backfired to hell, but the goal was to force israel to make a real offer.
This is totally divorced from the reality of the Israel/Palestine conflict. Right of Return is, at this point, basically a symbolic demand that Israel recognize the illegitimacy of the Nakba. The formulation Palestinians proposed in 2008 was, Israel agrees that refugees have a theoretical right to return, but the exercise of that right in practice can be curtailed to token numbers, with Israel controlling the flow, so that Israel can maintain Jewish demographic supremacy indefinitely. Basically, the Israelis are being asked to give up a little bit of pride in exchange for peace. As such, it's one of the few Palestinian demands which you genuinely cannot claim harms Israeli security.
So, contra what Derek is saying, Right of Return is among the best terms to compromise on. It means very little to Israelis (they keep their land, their security, their Jewish majority) and it means a lot to Palestinians. It's a great place for negotiators to bend.
@Bram_R the israelis and americans lied to the media and told us that the palestinians had been offered everything they said they wanted and still refused and chose violence which is total b.s.
@Bram_R . and the arab side idiotically decided intifada 2 was going to bring them back to the table.
these are some of the main reasons why we’re where we’re at today
@Bram_R the voters were sincere, but the government was lying about what they were offering, and why it failed etc, which made the israelis think the palestinians had been negotiating in bad faith which isn’t true,
@Bram_R i think neither leadership wants and actual peace, and israel has been lying to its own people about its positions and history since the beginning, but that’s another story
@Bram_R i don’t think anyone can do anything right now, and i think public opinion has changed, and no one on either side trust eachother enough for peace, but it shows that its possible if things calm down
@LateoRT jesus christ - i don’t know if you having an OCD/autism issue here or your problem is, but this conversation is extremely annoying, please stop, thank you.
all this bragging about how open israeli society is compared to arab countries - and meanwhile they’re doing this, taking advantage of it, and making these peoples’ lives hell
