With the 82nd Anniversary of #Dunkirk evacuations we share the stories we recorded of people who were there in 1940. Many of these people are no longer with us, but their stories live on in the archives so others can read or hear about their experiences

The testpitting is part of 'Small Pits Big Idea', a @WorcsArchSoc project run by @ExploreThePast & funded by @HeritageFundUK. Wichenford is 1 of 6 locations across the county. It's based on a project run in the East of England by Time Team's @CarenzaLewis.

Our April event was taking part in a community testpitting project in Wichenford led by @ExploreThePast. Lots of members came, as well as some family members too. We aren't able to do archaeological excavation very often, so it's great when we get the opportunity!
A fantastic weekend unearthing Wichenford's hidden history! Thanks to everyone who took part.
Lots of stories waiting to emerge from the muddy finds bags, including the intriguing #Georgian counterfeit coins 🤔 We'll let you know as the picture unravels.

We played several traditional games at WYAC meetings, such as 9 Mens Morris, dominoes & tiddlywinks, & this inspired some members to focus on games for our Childhood Tales #OrdinaryToExtraordinary project

WWII interests many young people, & some of our members chose this as their focus for the #OrdinaryToExtraordinary project. This included interviewing people about their experiences as a child during the war

Over the past few months we investigated childhood in the past as part of @eh_shoutoutloud project funded by @HeritageFundUK. What can archaeology & archives tell us? What has survived?

💬 “Part of a generative, community of practice, you can nurture conditions for hopeful actions. That at this time, the stories you help tell matter, not as narratives of forgotten pasts, but as preconditions for better futures.”
This week's #FindsFriday is a pleasingly large section of #Roman samian ware from another of our recent excavations.
Samian ware was imported from Gaul and is found all over Britain. It's often possible to identify workshops or individual potters from stamps on the base! (1/2)
