Welcome to the new year. 2024 will mark our 50th anniversary at The Word Works! Here's to 50 more, thanks to our amazing authors, readers, editors, and board. Evergreen!
@shaindelr The thing I value most in a residency besides, you know, time to write is if someone else takes over ALL household chores. Cooking, cleaning, doing the dishes. Offer that at a reasonable cost and BAM, you’ve got a thriving YURT IN A FIELD program.
@LynneSchmidt#comfortfood Those two poems can be a fertile addition to your next book. Don’t know what press you’re referring to (but can guess), but once the book is out, promote it with all your soul, and don’t look back at the production. We cherish the years you put into creating it.
@chloepoet @JessicaACuello, you are in superb company here! So thrilled that you two are together in this pic, and even more thrilled that you are press sisters!
@chloepoet@djvorreyer has such tremendously exquisite taste! I’m partway through the intense and masterful LIAR and so proud that Jessica’s also one of our authors (for her Washington-Prize-winning HUNT). You’re in great company here, @chloepoet!
This BEAUTIFUL new collection by @chloepoet just arrived, and ahhh check out the acknowledgments! 💦So excited to talk with Chloe on @OfPoetryPodcast soon! 🎙✨
@EmilyVanDuyne I teach Children’s Lit at the college level for future teachers. The first thing I have them do is write a “Reader’s Autobiography,” detailing when/what/why they loved or hated what they did as readers. Guess what? They ALL mention, with loathing, being *forced* to read.
This beautiful, beautiful book! And all the journals that published poems along the way! @hmvanderhart @MoistPoetry and many others. Bless you all for the boosts along the way!
Please help Cave Wall find more followers, now that we are getting better at Tweeting. 🤣How about this? When we hit 1,000 followers, we will give away three prizes: a Jennifer Grotz broadside, a subscription, and a set of back issues. Anyone who comments is eligible. Thanks!
@caroljeangavin Start with a candle that has just been lit, and move quickly. The wick can develop an ember if allowed to burn for a while, and this can actually give you a burn. Not a big one, but still…
@WriterLDavis I think it depends on who/what the bio is for. Sending to a lit mag? Include a couple, but don’t lard the letter with such details or it starts to feel pushy/desperate. For the back of your own book? Chill, babe: you’re getting published which is WAY better!
