A UK governing party unwilling to use the force of the law to crack down on internal as well as external threats to democratic institutions will look weak to its friends as much as its enemies
@BBCNewsnight Hunt's Austerity 3.0 - the champion of creating a privatised NHS by the back door... tells the poor (which now includes most of us) to bear the burden...
NEW Keir Starmer: "The scenes in Belfast last night were shocking and completely unacceptable. There is no justification for the violence and disorder that we saw threatening our communities, nor for those who encouraged it, online or elsewhere. It is clear that people were targeted last night because of their background and I will not tolerate it. Those responsible will feel the full force of the law.”

@JeremyVineOn5@thecarolemalone@iamradzi@theJeremyVine Why would you set fire to a community that has already been affected by an horrific act? Not sure that this form of reaction effectively communicates a message... is the message being heard by those in power - is this the only way? I hope not... #jeremyvine
@Peston@DennyTheJourno "White working class" -austerity -lack of opportunity. Good that someone is listening. That comment on 'what were Labour doing in opposition?" feels strange - one stint at government to fix? - Surely not Reform UK or Cons?
Sad to say, I see this every day up here @TrevorPTweets

@Feargal_Sharkey Our politics has found a new low - some may say that the paper he works for might have helped define our poor discourse... but, apparently, that's for another day...
@DPJHodges A sad time for our politics tbh... we hope that people can see it - but I know that when I go to the pub or to work I'll have to suffer the soundbites...
@NickCohen4 Maybe, and Dan does make a good point - so I might retweet him, even though some say he’s a strong supporter of the Conservative Party. I guess we’re at the stage where “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”
How long will that last...?
@HannahRMarston Thanks for the replies. I get what you’re saying now. To be honest (and I hate to admit it), I do my best to avoid going to MBoro or most big centres. Personally, I think a lot of crime is drug-related, goes unreported, and has almost become expected.
@devonviews@KevinASchofield@montie "Running to the IMF" is not on the horizon... it wasn't when the Telegraph reported on this in May and it certainly isn't now.
I have granted the following urgent question in the @HouseofCommons today.
From @GRobinsonDUP to ask @hilarybennmp, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland @NIOgov, if he will make a statement on reports of a serious violent attack in north Belfast..

@KevinASchofield@montie It's almost as if Farage doesn't want any questions on what current Reform UK policy is on employment rights - the minimum wage etc... or 'gifts'?
