Did you know that a mature adult tapeworm takes about three months to grow to full length? The developing proglottids (segments) extend down the small intestine, sometimes reaching the ileum. All adult tapeworms feed by actively transporting nutrients (e.g., sugars, amino acids, nucleic acids) across their tegumental surface, since they have no digestive tract.
