How can fish help address malnutrition and food insecurity in Timor-Leste?
In an exclusive interview with RTTL World News recently, Mario Pereira, WorldFish Country Representative in Timor-Leste, discusses how WorldFish is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MALFF) to strengthen aquaculture, improve access to nutritious aquatic foods, and create livelihood opportunities for fish farmers.
With nearly half of children under five affected by stunting and 19% experiencing acute malnutrition, increasing the availability and consumption of locally produced fish is an important step toward improving nutrition and food security.
WorldFish is working with partners to contribute to the Government of Timor-Leste's target of 15 kg of local fish consumption per person per year by 2030.

How can communities and government work together to keep fisheries healthy and support local livelihoods?
This month, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MALFF), WorldFish and James Cook University (JCU) delivered a Fisheries Co-Management Training Program at the National Institute for Fisheries and Aquaculture (INPA) in Maubara, Liquiça.
Led by local trainers who recently completed a Training of Trainers programme, the initiative builds local capacity to help communities develop fisheries co-management plans that reflect their needs and priorities.
The activity is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and executed by WorldFish in partnership with MALFF.
