I joined a roundtable on AI this week with Minister Evan Solomon, MP Arielle Kayabaga P.C, M.P, and MP Tatiana Auguste to discuss Canada’s AI direction.

As we move from chatbots to autonomous agents that can act (move money, access data, initiate workflows), the trust gap becomes the bottleneck. Compute is the engine. But for agentic AI in sensitive systems, we also need verifiable identity and auditability by default.

We need an open, model-independent layer for agent permissions, tamper-evident logs, and rapid containment when something goes wrong.

Canada can lead by pairing compute with trust infrastructure, and by creating faster pilot pathways for innovators to deploy responsibly.
