@EdF1920 @AmyToosh88 Oh absolutely. And there was a match a few years ago where Maxwell-Keys sent off a player in Edinburgh for a little open palm cheeky touch of a face. All down to interpretation. https://t.co/mAgdBeZWSx
@AmyToosh88 @EdF1920 As true as that scenario is, in rugby law, there is nothing in place to punish intent nor an attempted incident of foul play and give a red card.
@AmyToosh88 Compare the two incidents and the materiality of it, and the actual successful hair pull by Ashton. Genge more so went to grab and didn’t really make much of it. Now the Wasps players forearm before Genge retaliates…
@AmyToosh88 They’re both involved in a scuffle and holding onto each other. The hair pulling and face contact as TF said was disproportionate, hence yellow was all was needed. It’s been brewing and Genge needs time to cool off. Nothing more from that.
@davehodgkins2@toby_dart@premrugby@btsportrugby Dave, unless you have psychic abilities, we don’t know what Genge was trying to do. Reckless none the less, no clear and obvious evidence of more. No wasps player reaction re: ‘gouge’. Yellow justified.
@evski8 @LeinsterPAGuy Can you line your rationale up against the framework? Interested to see how you reach red. Camera angles show no clear nor obvious step inside.
@jarleth_eaton @NapoleonIV10 Rugby had laws not rules. Rules must be followed, laws are interpreted and are very much not black and white but rather fifty plus shades of grey. Looking at the framework, that’s a red card offence. Disappointing to see the TMO not have some balls and speak up.
@jarleth_eaton @NapoleonIV10 The issue with intent is that you can never know what someone actually intends to do, regardless of how much of a ‘nice guy’ the commentator professes the player is.
@jarleth_eaton @NapoleonIV10 Red cards, unless as clear as day, will be scrutinised heavily post-match. At this level, as ridiculous as it is, optics is a big part of the equation, unfortunately. He’ll also have been considering future appointments and the upcoming 6N (I know 🙄)
