We’re proud to feature Samuel Ndungu, a 32-year-old agripreneur from Kiambu, Kenya, as one of our speakers at the WorldVeg side event in Dakar #AFSForum2025.

On his one-acre farm, Samuel practices regenerative agriculture and works as an aggregator, connecting smallholder farmers to markets such as Tawi Fresh Kenya, FarmtoFeed, and Sylvia’s Basket. With support from World Vegetable Center, he has improved market access, boosted farmer incomes, and mentors fellow youth in agribusiness.

Samuel’s journey demonstrates how Africa’s young farmers are redefining agriculture as a thriving, innovative enterprise.

This week, members of the Africa Vegetable Breeding Consortium (AVBC) including, but not limited to, companies from Italy, France, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, Mali, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Tanzania, and Kenya kicked off a 3-day meeting to shape the future of Africa’s vegetable seed varieties.

Together, they are mapping farmers’ needs and building on WorldVeg’s breeding work in pepper, okra, and amaranth to develop resilient, farmer-focused varieties that will power the next generation of food systems across the continent.
