Total US public debt surpassed $40 trillion for the first time, and has now surged by a third in less than five years, as US lawmakers continue to shrug off calls to contend with historically wide fiscal deficits.

US hiring is showing signs of a recovery:
20% of small business owners said in July that they plan to hire over the next 3 months, the highest since October 2022.
By comparison, the average since the 1970s is just ~11%.
This also marks a +9 percentage point MoM increase, the largest monthly improvement in hiring intentions on record.
This even surpasses the sharp recovery seen following the 2020 pandemic drop.
Historically, this indicator has led nonfarm private payrolls by 3-6 months, as small firms account for ~46% of all US private sector employment.
If history holds, a stronger jobs report could be just months away.

Since 1991, annual employment growth in the computer systems design industry has almost always outpaced overall U.S. employment growth. With two exceptions: The rollback in 2002-2003 (after the dot-com buildup and the 2001 recession), as well as in 2022.

.@SecScottBessent: "We continue to have a strong dollar policy, and the strong dollar policy is that the U.S. economy is pulling away from the rest of the world... The underlying economy I think is very strong and the only inflationary impulses that we're seeing are coming from the energy, which is temporary."

🚨 JUST IN: In a huge win, President Trump has struck a deal to MASSIVELY lower the price of beef for working families — new beef is coming in 25% cheaper
“For the next 90 days, the United States will allow up to 300,000 metric tons of product for ground beef to be imported with no out of quota tariff!” 👏🏻
“We have a commitment that this beef will be sold at 25 percent below current market prices.”
“This deal will reduce prices for Americans while giving space for our Great American Beef Herd to grow again. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP” 🇺🇸
Awesome!
This morning Trump proudly announced a deal to lower beef prices by reducing quotas and tariffs on imported beef. But that's also an admission that tariffs increased prices paid by American consumers. If removing tariffs lowers prices, then imposing them must have raised prices.
“The Pentagon, Congress, and the private sector need to build on the momentum of the last five years, and shed, once and for all, their mutually reinforcing pathological caution when it comes to purchasing technology,” argues Doug Beck.
