I grew up in white evangelicalism. They taught me that:

- we’re all equal in Christ
- anyone is welcome at church
- we should uplift the oppressed
- every religion deserves freedom
- the words of Jesus must be taken seriously

But when I planted a church centered on these values, white evangelicals called us woke liberals, claimed we weren’t real Christians, and kicked our church out of their denominations and networks.

@masonmennenga that's a good point. For Christians who are pro-choice, I guess the tandem is "God did not murder babies" in the 1st case and "that's not a baby" in the 2nd. And of course there are some people who, in good faith, believe the former and not the latter.

was thinking: Jesus referenced the Israelites being cured of their snake bites by looking that the iron snake. he didn't say they were healed by believing something specific. interesting tho that that looking at what we fear (what traumatizes us) is essential to our healing.

@thescottbarber I'm assuming this person is Orthodox or Byzantine Catholic. 2 things: Mainliners never take their Bibles to church, and what's wrong with following along, taking notes, etc? Sure, some people use it to virtue signal, but he's got a real cynical take on this imo.
