What does ‘don’t should’ve a survivor’ mean? It means don’t tell a survivor what they should’ve done because you have no idea what they should’ve done.

“And when survivors speak up, abusers claim it’s spiritual warfare—that the accusations are the enemy’s attempt to stop their ministry.
They reframe accountability as persecution, casting themselves as martyrs.”

“Survivors know all too well they are often on their own. What they need is real support, care, and community—not dismissive and insulting messages that only add to the weight they’re already carrying.”

For me it wasn’t ‘forgiveness’ that finally ‘set me free’. It was putting all the blame, shame, guilt, and responsibility on the perpetrator that finally released me.
Whenever a DV arrest hits the news it’s about women that miss ‘red flags’ and marry the wrong man or why women don’t leave abuse - what it should be about is male violence.

Many survivors spend years trying to find the right words, believing that if they could just explain it better, people would finally understand. Some people understand perfectly but make the choice to not support you. They are the problem-not you.

“Abusers facing allegations suddenly become religious. They are embraced by faith communities, given platforms, interviewed by faith leaders, and positioned as people with moral authority.
This is not redemption. This is strategy.”

Today is Denim Day started because we allow the abuse of victims in court. We need to stop allowing this and calling it due process - it’s called abuse. Read more here…

Please know that when survivors open up to you about their abuse and trauma, you’re probably only hearing a very small part of what they are actually facing and have faced - and they are taking a huge risk to do it.

I wish people worried more about perpetrators having the mindset of an abuser than they do of survivors having the mindset of a victim. #stopvictimshaming
“You have nothing to forgive yourself for. You didn’t cause the abuse. You didn’t allow it. A perpetrator made the choice to harm you.”
