This is the Benin–Sapele–Warri Road. It was once worse than the current Benin–Agbor Road, but the government has tamed its challenges with Reinforced Concrete Pavement. The Benin–Agbor Road will also be completed, and our roads currently undergoing restoration will be fully recovered from years of abandonment.

This week, I met with Vice-Chancellors representing all six geopolitical zones and their senior university officials, alongside the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu

Our discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between our universities and NASENI, including through the proposed NASENI Campus, to create a stronger pathway from academic research to commercialisation.

Nigeria has a vast pool of researchers, lecturers and students developing promising innovations, but our research cannot end with academic publications and prototypes. We must create pathways for our researchers to patent their inventions, develop market-ready products, attract investment and build viable companies,

The proposed NASENI Campus will help bridge this gap by connecting researchers to advanced laboratories, prototyping facilities, industry and investment, taking promising ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace.

I thank Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu and the NASENI team, as well as the Vice-Chancellors from ABU Zaria, UNIZIK Awka, UNIABUJA, FUTA, UniPort, UNIMAID, and BUK, Kano for their commitment to building a strong public-private partnership that connects academia, government and industry, and turns Nigerian research into tangible economic opportunities.

Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), we are repositioning our tertiary institutions as engines of research, innovation and enterprise.

As we work towards a $1 trillion economy, Nigeria’s knowledge and innovation must translate into products, businesses, jobs and sustainable prosperity. This is how we move from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy.

My 4TH VISIT TO THE ON GOING CONSTRUCTION OF THE ROMI-KARATUDU ROAD: Period: 2012- 2026

1: 2012 awarded by His Excellency, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, of blessed memory.

2: 15th August, 2025, the Gov of Kaduna, His Excellency, @Ubasani performed the ground breaking and expanded the project to include more communities.

-(a): project is designed to serve over 40,000 local residents.

-(b): the reconstruction covers 7 specific township and adjoining roads. They are: Cemetery; Lusawa; Church street/School; Dokaje (Doka); Jema’a; Karatudu-Federal Housing road.

3: Back on site again to inspect the progress of work. It is encouraging to see the project steadily taking shape.

-(a): Last month, I was in Romi, and today, I am at the Karatudu axis to inspect the ongoing construction of the road.

4: This road will improve connectivity, ease movement, reduce travel time and boost economic activities across the communities it serves.

5: I will continue to monitor the project until completion.

1: This is my third inspection visit to the ongoing road project in Romi-Karatudu.

2: You will recall that this project was awarded by Sir Patrick Yakowa’s administration. Specifically, October 2012.

3: 15th August 2025, the Gov of Kaduna State, HE @ubasanius performed the groundbreaking for the main road.

Yesterday in Abuja in the company of my wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri, I joined eminent Nigerians, senior citizens and top public servants from Bayelsa State to honour a worthy daughter of the state and a distinguished public servant, the retiring Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dame (Mrs.) Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, at the presentation of two of her books, ‘I Planted: A Memoir of Purposeful Service’ and ‘Beyond the Mandate’, documenting her 34 years of illustrious service to the nation.

I am glad to acknowledge the presence of former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, who represented President Bola Tinubu, my colleague from Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, my predecessor in office, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, former Bayelsa deputy governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah (rtd), National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and others at the gathering to celebrate a woman who has made herself, her family, our State, and indeed our nation proud.

As the Chief Presenter of ‘I Planted: A Memoir of Purposeful Service’, I wish to reflect on my working relationship with Mrs. Walson-Jack during her service as Chief of Staff, Government House under my predecessor in office, H.E Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and I can attest to her resilience, diligence and integrity in office.

In that capacity, I saw first-hand the discipline, the intellect, and the quiet strength she brought to governance in Bayelsa State. She was the calm in the storm, the memory of the administration, and the conscience that reminded us that every decision must serve the people.

As she exits the Federal Civil Service after thirty-four years of unexampled and meritorious service spanning Rivers State, Bayelsa State, and the Federal Civil Service, we do not mark an end. We mark a transition from active service to enduring legacy.

These books document the seeds of faith, hard work, and integrity that Mrs. Walson-Jack sowed from her early days in the Civil Service. The text and tone of the books indeed bear a striking resemblance to their author: measured, graceful, principled, and deeply rooted.

These books are more than a personal recollection, it is an archive of the formative years of our State — a record of those who cleared the grasses, dug the foundation, and put frameworks in place capable of outliving the individual who established them.

While I appreciate Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Mrs. Walson-Jack, to the position in August, 2024, we are most delighted that she has served the country with an unblemished record.

As a state, we are extremely proud of her accomplishments, and on behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa, I extend warm congratulations to Mrs. Walson-Jack for being an outstanding ambassador of our state and the Niger Delta.

I dare say, Bayelsa is proud of you, a worthy daughter of the Ijaw nation. You planted in Rivers and Bayelsa States. You watered in Abuja. And God in His grace has increased the work of your hands. Today, the whole nation gathers to witness the harvest — a harvest that will continue to feed generations long after the applause in the hall has faded.

Congratulations once again, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack. May God continue to bless you and keep you, for more years of greater service to our state and our country.
