The Nanking Massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking, is a mass murder and war rape that occurred during a 6-week period following the Japanese capture of the city of Nanking, former capital of Republic of China on December 13, 1937 during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War.
During this period, hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians and disarmed soldiers were murdered and an est. 80,000 women were raped by soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army. The most remarkable part of this Crime Against Humanity, for which Japan has NEVER apologized to China for, is the Japanese soldiers ENJOYED their atrocity. There is cruelty and there is gratuitous cruelty. Japan fits the latter. Cf. the conduct of its current Prime Minister.
