Ecstatic to see my human-whale friendship story, ‘Old Scar Tail and the Professor’ made it onto the winner’s list with 7th place. Congratulations to everyone and thanks to @nycmidnight for introducing me to rhyming stories- I’m hooked!

Gremlins have taken over the NQW website 😱
We appreciate your patience (and impatience - all feelings are valid! 😂) as we work through these “unprecedented times”.
Birthday Boy is on the case, so please bear with us.
And the first story of the year is on its way. Thanks to @WritersCentreAU for the #FuriousFiction challenge and kicking me out of the food coma and into "brainiation" as my kids would say. Good luck all, but I feel we've already won, laying down a story in the single days of Jan!
“Mom!” The youngest must have found the pom-pom his sister superglued to his Lego astronaut. —"Save" by @writeranthea in case you missed it

You don't want the audience waiting for what happens next. You want them to anticipate it.
This means controlling the narrative momentum, stakes, and tension. It's your job to keep them engaged.
Don't ask for their patience. Very few of them will give it.
