"You encounter a strange, cult-like group that lives in almost total isolation from the outside world. They jealously guard their arcane knowledge and practice some exceedingly cruel rituals."

Here is the Met Commissioner’s acknowledgement of what I have been saying and writing for six years: terrorists often have a history of domestic violence. #HomeGrown#MVAWG
* LINDISFARNE CHILDREN’S PRIZE *
In addition to our adult crime fiction writing prize, the Northern Photography Prize and the Northern Film Prize, I’ve had it in mind for a long time to found a children’s writing prize and I can think of no better time than the present to encourage the younger members of our community to express themselves creatively through writing. With this in mind, our team is preparing to launch the new prize before Christmas and it will be available to primary aged children in the North East, initially, with a tiered prize system.
This year’s theme will be TREES, and we hope it will prove educational and inspiring for those children who take part.
For any teachers in the region who may find this of interest, please keep looking out for further updates in October.

It's so sad to hear of this senseless act of ecocide. My former PhD student @WritingByZoe (now Dr Mitchell!) wrote a brilliant poem about the tree. The image of the wall takes on even harder significance now.

@pinkyandrexa@BBCRadio4@chiuni @IndigoDreamsPub @WordsforWild Thank you and belated congrats on your poem. I do think poems are meant to be heard, so radio is the perfect medium for it. It's still very scary to do it, though!
Very proud to have shared my poem about Sycamore Gap on @BBCRadio4 as part of a segment on the senseless destruction there. I only wish it had been for a much happier reason.

@alisonatkin I was so struck by how alive the tree and the wall were in that landscape, it's why I could imagine them bickering after so many years... I thought that would go on forever. 😢
Just seen the news about #SycamoreGap thanks to this post from @theliterarypig and I'm so sad. An iconic skyline, a piece of history, a symbol of endurance... and it's just been destroyed. 😢 Here's my poem about that wonderful place:

Here's a wonderful #Poem#SycamoreGap by
@WritingByZoe, a Guardian Poem of the Week. A conversation between Hadrian's Wall & that iconic tree. I was in a workshop group with Zoe & we all loved this poem from its first outing. Today's news is numbing. https://t.co/z7HfEgrf8Z
@theliterarypig OMG. I hadn't seen the news and now I wish I hadn't looked. 😢 I know I made the tree a bit snarky, but he'd earned his place there just like the wall.
