Masters student in the MAppLing at Monash, grounding himself in Linguistics before continuing study in psychology to see how linguistics can inform clin psych
@ben_buchanan But what I noticed immediately when it mentioned it didn't have personal experience was how critical that personal experience can be as a tool in therapy to build that trust and connection by sharing stories to assure someone that they're not alone in their suffering! So hollow!
@ben_buchanan And so they know it shouldn't claim otherwise. Which is naturally the biggest reason why it couldn't substitute the role of a psychologist. 5/?
Since I was a teenager I've wanted to know how many people like me there were and wished the stats were available. That's why I signed a petition for the questions about #Queer identity to be included in the next #Australian#census

I've just discovered that @tomscott's @lateralcast has gorgeously laid out full transcripts complete and available online for all the episodes! That's such an awesome feature! I love the accessibility for even an audio only format!
No better group of diverse voices to be studying #WorldEnglishes with this semester for my MAppLing! Proud to share this anonymised photo from our last class with the inspiring, Senior Lecturer in #Linguistics at @MonashLing Dr Marc Xu (front right) ❤️@MonashLing
@TermyLC @MonashLing@MonashUni You know, I think I might enjoy teaching a lecture at least once for the experience but in fact, no. Teaching linguistics is not my long term goal.
Feels good!
On the way up to my @MonashLing class yesterday I was chatting in the lift to a nice woman who asked me, "Are you teaching today?" It feels so cool to have people perceive me as someone mature and well presented enough that I could be teaching at @MonashUni age 27: 👌🏼
You've heard of the male gays but this week in my lecture I heard about a related species: the tourist gaze! It was just too easy to picture them all hanging over the rails of a big gay cruise ship as an alternative visual to the intended meaning of my lecture! 😂🏳️🌈
@TermyLC I can relate so hard! My facial recognition is so impaired I can't even recognise cars. If I hear someone greeting Ryan's nearby I might just chime in with a, "Hey, I'm also Ryan!" Just in case 😁
A bit sad commuting to uni in high UV while COVID still isn't over, I hate how unapproachable I look when really I'm dying to smile at people and be friendly. I can't see without my prescription lenses and swapping from sunglasses for 4 train stops and a 6 minute bus is too much!
Thrilled to report my mohawk is back in action for the new semester! I'm ready to enjoy the very unglamorous lifestyle of applying sunscreen to the sides of my head for the last weeks of summer!
As the exam season draws closed, a new busy season begins. The weather is warming so it's time to shed my sleeves, style my hair, scan my score, and step up to sing, I'm shamelessly ready for more #ChristmasCarolling rehearsals with @MonUCSChoir, book them, we're great!
