Please if you live in Nigeria,
Before you believe any genotype or blood group result, kindly ensure you do the test in at least 2 places - INCLUDING one government teaching hospital and one ‘reputable’ private laboratory.

I have seen relationships ruined due to fake genotype results. I have seen children’s lives destroyed due to wrong genotype of parents. I have seen marriages threatened and wrecked over wrong genotype problems.

Do NOT be quick to assume repeated “malaria” is equal to AA. Do NOT make this mistake- it can be very costly.

Don’t get me wrong. People with AA genotype are prone to having more malaria infections compared to AS or SC or SS. Sometimes the reason you have repeated malaria is because you have terrible drainage in front of your house which breeds mosquitoes repeatedly and you never use mosquito nets or insecticides before you sleep. This is possibly why you get a lot of malaria infections- not that you are AA.

Anyway pls don’t just assume you are AA without elaborate testing at two reputable medical centers including one government teaching hospital and one reputable medical laboratory.

You should get the exact same result from the two places if it is done rightly and appropriately. IF you do your genotype test and one place is telling you one thing and the other place is telling you something else, FIRST check where the tests were done. IF you know it was done at one substandard place, please go and repeat it in a proper standard reputable medical centre. And then double check the result from there by doing it in one more other reputable centre.

Most likely, IF you do your genotype in two reputable medical centers, you will get the same result. This is your true genotype.

Now in the rare exceptional circumstance, where you have done the genotype in two reputable centres and you get different results, pls go to a specialist hospital and ask to speak with a haematologist (this is a specialist who expertly handles genotype problems). They will resolve the issue for you.

I am sorry but I have to admit this. There are a lot of unchecked quack “labs” in Nigeria giving people wrong, fake and misleading blood group and genotype results.

People have lost the love of their lives because some quack lab somewhere told them they are AS when they are actually AA (so they broke up with their AS partner not knowing they are infact AA).

And equally, some people have married someone they should not have married because one lab told them they are AA when they are actually AS. (and the other person too is AS).

I really hope this little writeup will help someone somewhere do that genotype test today and know exactly where you stand. Kindly repost and retweet to help someone out there.

Pls share your stories or any one you know who has been a victim of fake genotype results as well.
