We had a VIP at bee club today/Mr Gregory @WycliffeHead donned a bee-suit & gloves as Jaden shared his knowledge of beekeeping/No varroa mites were counted today 🙌 so our Autumn oxalic treatment has worked/Lots of bees returning with pollen/a sure sign that the Queen🐝is laying

The production line has started! Making beeswax wraps & tasting Jaden’s honey shortbread during bee club today. Dr Lovewell’s lab has never looked like a laundry before !#washinglineofwraps

Lots of buzzing around the crocus that #beeclub planted. Crocus provide early pollen for protein & nectar for energy for our honeybees. Look out for more sightings around campus as the spring bulbs come into flower.

Lots of freshly capped stores in the beehive. We need to ensure they’re bringing in enough nectar to make honey to store for the winter. Isn’t it incredible that they make their own honey & then cap it with wax so it doesn’t spoil? 🐝👏

Mission accomplished. Second colony re-homed in ‘Jackie’s Hive’ at 7.30 this morning 🙌 We will keep feeding them liquid feed for the next few weeks to help them build into a strong colony.

The bees marching back into the box to hunker down overnight with some liquid feed before we transfer them into our second hive tomorrow. It’s never a dull moment keeping bees 🐝 Thank you Mrs T & Mrs B, you deserve a medal 🏅🙌 🏆

Our Queen with the lovely temperament decided to swarm today & we were able to rescue them with the help of the excellent Will O’Brien. 👏

Exciting news! We divided our huge colony yesterday🙌Mrs Trainor took home her first colony of bees/We won’t closely inspect the bees for the next 3 weeks while the new queens emerge but will monitor the hives for worker bees returning with pollen-a sure sign of a laying queen 🐝

One of many sealed Queen cells we found today. This means the colony is strong enough to allow the current Queen to fly off with female workers to find a new home leaving a daughter to fight it out with other queens that emerge to take over the current colony #beehusbandry
