An infographic showing the #Military#Crusader Orders which emerged as unique institutions blending monastic devotion with martial duty. Founded in the wake of the First Crusade (1096–1099), their primary purpose was to protect pilgrims and defend the Crusader States in the Holy Land. The most prominent among them, the Knights Templar (from c. 1119), the #Knights Hospitaller (military from. c. 1099), and the Teutonic Order (from c. 1190), combined vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience with a permanent commitment to holy #warfare. Their formation reflected the changing nature of #crusading, in which religious zeal, military necessity, and emerging notions of chivalric piety became intertwined.
Beyond their military role, these orders evolved into powerful transnational organizations that shaped #medieval politics, economics, and culture. They administered vast networks of estates across Europe, financed military campaigns, and introduced early forms of banking and logistics. While their influence waned after the fall of the Crusader States and the suppression of the Templars in 1312, the Hospitallers endured as the Knights of Malta, and the Teutonic Order spearheaded Christian expansion in the Baltic. The Crusader Orders embodied the fusion of #faith and warfare that defined much of medieval Christendom, instruments of both devotion and domination whose legacy continued to influence #European and global #history long after their decline.

The Olive tree of Vouveson on the island of Crete, Greece, is one of the oldest olive trees in the world.
Scientists from the University of Crete have estimated it to be 4,000 years old, which means that, when it sprouted, the last mammoths were still walking on Earth, someone in China was discovering bronze casting and the seventh Egyptian dinasty was declining.
The Minoan civilization was thriving and its monumental architecture was adorning the island of Crete. The first stones of the Palace of Minos at Knossos which inspired the myth of the Minotaur were laid.
This tree saw the humans deeds for thousands of years, from the Bronze Age to the artificial intelligence and, possibly the most amazing thing, it continues to produce olives at every season.
The philosopher John Stuart Mill was NOT a Constantine fan:
“It is a bitter thought, how different a thing the Christianity of the world might have been if the Christian faith had been adopted as the religion of the empire under…Marcus Aurelius instead of those of Constantine.”
In 1908, Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier uncovered the Phaistos Disc at the Minoan palace of Phaistos on Crete - Greece 🇬🇷
This clay artifact, dating to 2nd Millennium BC, bears 241 stamped symbols arranged in 45 spiralling groups across both sides. The script remains undeciphered, its purpose unknown, leaving scholars and enthusiasts to speculate endlessly.
The disc is now kept at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum in Crete, where its mystery endures.
