Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong came out recently against the bill trying to stop it. He wants Coinbase to be able to do what banks do, but without all of the banking regulations.

I am sort of torn on this issue. Banks are regulated for a reason, having bank failures is usually a disaster for the economy. While more competition is good, financial companies holding deposits and taking too much risk is not acceptable.
