TV host Jeremy Vine said in court that Barton: "gravely upset me", and a sports pundit female said she'd suffered "anxiety" from his words.

Judge Andrew Menary commented on Barton wearing a Union Flag scarf as the verdicts were read out: “He has chosen to adorn himself with a particular flag, which I suppose is a stunt to make a point, he will not be permitted to do that on the date of sentence,”
