Punk rock marks its 50th anniversary this year.
The music? It's still amazing. However, the myth of punk as the ultimate rebellion is pure BS. Here's what they don't tell you.
Look away, Clash fans...

@Fat_Electrician You just know there are actuaries and accountants in Brussels crunching the numbers as we speak.
Just wait until the elder populace used to cradle-grave benefits start demanding stipends for retrofitting their house or free AC units.
@truthwarrior324@Lilly_bat98 Ha, no. This is why context matters. He's not a comedian or writer. He sold his life story to Steven Spielberg based on interviews like this.
People actually believed he was the world's greatest con man.
@ianmSC I knew it was clickbait.
When you work in the industry you sadly learn that like 20% of the headlines are complete nonsense and in no way reflect common sense, general consensus, or reality.
Time was, Vegas casinos only swindled you by offering free drinks to liquor you up.
Now they rip you off with hidden "Resort Fees" before you even arrive at the hotel.
Private equity makes you nostalgic for the Mafia days.
@BBCBreaking Six PMs in a decade, each failing in a unique way. Britain is quite literally ungovernable.
And the next one will likely not last long as Labour is on its way out. By the next general election we will probably witness another two PMs deliver this same speech.
@cityaestheticss No. It's hideous. There's zero grace or nuance
It's granite, but it looks a generic '60s Brutalist concrete slab with random angles.
The text is horrible. Even at the correct angle, when the sun isn't blurring the letters, the font is so close together the words run together.
@Ubisoft Ubisoft needs to go bankrupt. It's the only way this industry will learn.
This company is like a gangrenous limb on the body of the video game community.
After the anti-consumer practices and lobbying in the EU, supporting Ubisoft is morally indefensible.
@BiancoDavinci In video game parlance the aggressive yellow color-grading is called the "piss filter."
Though in that medium it was never region-specific, oddly.
@Kalshi_Film Connery was never "serious." His films were chocked full of bad quips.
I have to assume you've never seen Diamonds Are Forever. Connery, and the writers, basically played that whole film as a self-parody. Some scenes are indistinguishable from the Bond spoofs.
@redsteeze Thing is, American cars in the 1970s and '80s were notoriously awful.
Hollywood films in the 2010s and '20s are, likewise, dreck.
The big difference is that the auto companies had tariffs and quotas to prop up incompetent US manufacturers in the domestic market (until NAFTA).
@mamboitaliano__ Cities that thrive by the tourist trade... die by the tourist trade.
But nothing is more baffling then the throngs who fly across the world to wait hours to take a mediocre picture of the Mona Lisa.
"High culture" in 2026 is basically just Black Friday at Walmart:
@AbuFajerr It's simple but depressing. Hardcore (real) stealth was too challenging for most casual players, and too hard to code and design for most developers.
Thus, we get games with lousy AI, and built around x-ray and slow-motion cinematic bs. You know the games I'm talking about.
