Does math really save time?
What if I told you it has actually saved countless lives?
When explorers set out on ships to discover new lands, they often faced extremely tedious calculations. These involved large and complex multiplications, and getting them wrong could put lives at serious risk.
Back then, there were no calculators. So one man began to wonder: how can these massive calculations be made simpler? What if multiplication could be turned into addition?
To solve this, he introduced tables that made calculations much easier. Today, we know them as logarithm tables.
That man was John Napier. Thanks to his work, countless lives at sea were saved, as sailors could perform accurate calculations much more quickly and safely.
