A 🧵 on how the oceans are being destroyed by pollutants and how this ultimately threatens all life on Earth.
Carbon dioxide is acidifying the ocean at the fastest rate in 300 million years. This speed of acidification is a marker of mass extinction.

A reminder: the people in power don’t need conferences, treaties or agreements to start taking real climate action. They can start today.
When enough people come together then change will come and we can achieve almost anything. So instead of looking for hope - start creating it.
After the betrayal by the powerful governments at #COP26, here's what I think we now need to attempt. It's a tough call, but the evidence suggests it's possible. Otherwise we're cooked.

The moment when the parade for the new Lord Mayor of London was halted by @ScientistsX under a false name. At the centre of fossil fuel investments, a giant drowning head is unveiled, reaching for the Earth as Boris and Rishi smash it up in front of the crowds. Brilliant.
#COP26 was never going to accomplish anything and we’re more fucked than ever.
The change we need will come from the people, not politicians at corrupt conferences. So tomorrow we will gather and march on Parliament.

PLEASE READ. NOTHING SURPASSES THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS:
This is the draft Cop26 agreement: https://t.co/hUcMRFPa22
It has actually taken my breath away. I was expecting something pretty dire. I’ve been warning for months that it would be pretty dire. But this! Even I am shocked.
6 years ago they promised to try and keep global warming under 1.5.
They promised to provide $100bn a year by 2020 to support sustainable development in poor countries.
But since the #ParisAgreement global carbon emissions have continued to rise.
#COP26Glasgow is a sham.
LEICESTER SQUARE RIGHT NOW!!
lots of dancing and a massive pink table, let’s bring the climate crisis to the table and #ActNow to #DemandTheImpossible#XRYouth
Our government is failing to act in the face of a climate and ecological emergency. We need to do something.
This spring take action with hundreds of others, on the same day, at the same time, alone, together.

Things that are radical:
- Releasing CO2 at a rate unprecedented in 66m years
- Triggering a mass extinction event
- Killing the Arctic
- Killing the rainforests
- Plastic outweighing all land and sea animals
Things that are not radical:
- Direct action to change the above
Spiralling hotter and hotter... 141 years of global temperature from 1880 to 2020.
We may well have just witnessed our hottest year on record. A stark reminder that #ClimateChange is still a thing.
Happy new year.
In 1950 a period in planetary history unlike any other began.
You know about CO2 increase.
But CO2 was just one indicator among many others that things were - are - going very wrong.
Scientists have dubbed this The Great Acceleration.
