Eight faculty members in seven different disciplines have been promoted at Xavier University of Louisiana. Congratulations to our own Dr. Brian Turner who was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in Psychology. Way to go, Dr. T.!
⚠️Very worried about #BA5 causing #COVID19 hospitalization surges everywhere it goes—bad it’s very past-immunity-evasive. Portugal hit 80-90% of its old hospitalization peak recently. UK hospitals strained to the brink now too. Bad trends many in places.🧵

🚨URGENT🚨: One of the most prestigious virology labs in the world, the ones who confirmed BA 2 was more pathogenic than BA 1, Sato Labs, released a new study that finds that the VOCs BA4/5 as well as BA 2.12.1 are more INFECTIOUS and PATHOGENIC over BA 2 https://t.co/3EFRpC39do
When things go wrong, assess your options and take action. If Roe is overruled, options include supporting pro-choice candidates, lobbying businesses to leave states, filing lawsuits under 1st, 9th, 14th Ams, challenging laws under state Constitutions. What other ideas are there?
Not to worry anyone, but weekly #COVID19 hospitalizations in age 85+ has now exceeded England’s initial 2020 wave’s peak. BA2 is that transmissible & reinfection penetrating—Please get boosted. This can happen near you too if you ‘let it rip’. #CovidIsNotOver

Now isn't the time to forget about Covid and public health. It's our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ramp up investments in our health systems so we can protect people from this pandemic and prevent the next one.
2) Where is #BA2 highest? In New England (HHS region 1), where BA2 is already 24% of all cases. It’s definitely outcompeting the old original #Omicron which is fading away.
⚠️UPDATE—#BA2 is now 11.6% in US, up from 8.3% last week. It’s definitely increasing, as warned. #COVID19 still dropping, but BA2 is growing in underbelly—it’s a matter of when (not ‘if’) case drop plateaus, then reverses. Likely late April, early May.🧵
