Grace is understood as God's free, unmerited gift whereby human beings are elevated to share in the divine life itself. Wounded by original sin, humanity lost supernatural friendship with God that was intended from the first moment of creation. Grace restores and surpasses this original state, not by destroying human nature but by perfecting it from within. Through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, grace is poured out abundantly by the Holy Spirit, making the baptized soul a partaker of the Trinity's inner life (2 Peter 1:4).

Catholic teaching distinguishes primarily between sanctifying grace, a habitual and permanent gift that inheres in the soul and renders it holy and justified before God, and actual graces, which are particular divine illuminations and inspirations that prompt and assist the will in performing specific good acts. Grace is ordinarily conferred through the sacraments, visible signs instituted by Christ that efficaciously communicate invisible realities. Baptism initiates this life of grace by forgiving sin and infusing sanctifying grace, while the other sacraments sustain, nurture, or restore it according to the needs of the Christian journey.

A hallmark of Catholic teaching on grace is the harmonious cooperation between divine initiative and human freedom. Although no one can merit the first grace of justification, the recipient must freely respond to and cooperate with God's ongoing assistance. This collaboration enables the performance of meritorious works that contribute to growth in holiness and final perseverance. Grace, therefore, empowers rather than supplants the human will, leading the Christian toward the fullness of charity and eventual union with God in the Beatific Vision.

✨️ Quand l’Histoire profane rend témoignage au Christ

Il y a des moments où la foi n’a même plus besoin de se défendre. Parce que l’Histoire elle-même parle.

Non pas un Évangile. Non pas un Père de l’Église. Mais un historien juif du Ier siècle, cité dans une édition critique reconnue : Maynard’s Josephus, établie par George Henry Maynard.

Un texte daté de l’an 91. Un témoignage extérieur. Froid, factuel… et pourtant bouleversant :

« Regardez ceci. Cela a été écrit en l’an 91.

À cette époque apparut en Judée un homme extraordinaire appelé Jésus, s’il est permis de l’appeler un homme.
Il était un faiseur de miracles renommé, un maître pour ceux qui désiraient recevoir la vérité et la simplicité, et il attira à lui de nombreux disciples, tant parmi les Juifs que parmi les païens. Il était le Christ.

Pilate, sur l’accusation des princes et des grands de la nation, le livra au châtiment ignominieux de la croix.

Mais ceux qui l’avaient aimé dès le commencement ne l’abandonnèrent pas. Il leur apparut vivant le troisième jour après sa crucifixion.

Et jusqu’à ce jour, il existe un groupe de personnes qui portent le nom de chrétiens, le reconnaissant comme leur chef, leur Seigneur et leur Maître. »

« Mon Dieu… Ceci est un témoignage historique documenté attestant que Jésus-Christ était réel, qu’Il a véritablement existé, et qu’un récit historique de l’an 91 rend témoignage de Lui. »

Ce texte ne cherche pas à convertir. Il constate. Il atteste.

Un homme nommé Jésus. Des disciples. Une crucifixion sous Pilate. Une proclamation de résurrection. Et un peuple nouveau : les chrétiens.

Même hors de la foi, même hors de l’Église, le Christ laisse une trace indélébile dans l’Histoire.

« Les pierres crieront si eux se taisent. » (Luc 19,40)

mais aussi dans le temps, afin que le monde sache que Vous n’étes pas un mythe, mais le Vivant.
