Valve faces a £656 million UK class-action lawsuit over Steam pricing and commissions.
Brought by digital rights campaigner Vicki Shotbolt on behalf of up to 14 million UK Steam customers since June 2018, the claim alleges Valve abused its dominant market position by:
>Forcing publishers to avoid cheaper/earlier sales on rival stores
>Requiring in-game add-ons to be purchased only through Steam
>Charging up to 30% commissions, described as excessive and leading to higher consumer prices
The tribunal granted an opt-out collective order eligible UK residents are automatically included unless they opt out. Estimated damages: roughly £22–£44 per person (higher in Scotland).
Valve has not commented publicly since the ruling.
@GamesCage_ I suck at this game so at hour 3 I finally beat it, let go of my controls and looked back and realized that wasn’t just a pretty, non-lethal death animation
