I saw hundreds of people march in solidarity with one of the monarchs involved in the leadership tussle Kano state. Then I saw another prominent figure talking about Hawan Doki, and I kept asking myself: who programmed the minds of our people to become like this? Let’s call it what it is. That was a protest. Hundreds came out, knowing there could be confrontation and, in their minds, were even prepared to risk their lives for what they believed in.
So why can’t even HALF of these numbers come out and demand the rescue of the Borno schoolchildren who have now been in captivity for over four months?
What about the hundreds abducted in Niger State? What about the 37 innocent boys recently killed in Niger?
Wai don Allah, me ya same mu Arewa?
We can mobilise hundreds for a throne. We can mobilise for Hawan Doki. We can mobilise around political and traditional disputes. But when our children are kidnapped and our people are slaughtered, we struggle to mobilise even a fraction of that outrage.
Have we become so accustomed to insecurity that the suffering of our own people no longer moves us?
If we can come out in our hundreds for power and tradition, why can’t we come out for the lives of our children?
Some of the most vocal Og’s here are from Niger. How’s it possible that 500+ were kidnapped in one day followed by the murder of some in the bush, and subsequent killing of 37 kids and everywhere just calm for Niger state?

It’s been 133 days since 42 school children between the ages of 2 and 14 (only 4 are 15 years old) were abducted from their school in Askira-Uba, Borno state 💔 Nigerians, these aren’t just numbers, THEY ARE YOUR CHILDREN!!! @officialABAT@GovBorno@ProfZulum, we are all painfully waiting to hear the progress made by security forces to bring them home!!!! #BringBornochildrenHome
Dear Nigerian Government,
When our children were abducted in Oyo, we saw urgency.
You deployed 1,000 forest guards. You provided updates. You showed concern. You pursued the kidnappers and eventually brought the children home.
We applauded you because we believed that response reflected the value you place on every Nigerian life.
So why has the response to the #BornoSchoolChildren been so different?
Their parents have protested repeatedly. They have pleaded for their children. Yet months later, we are still waiting for the same urgency, the same visible effort and the same determination we witnessed in Oyo.
No Nigerian is more Nigerian than another Nigerian!
It is already a failure that these children were abducted. It would be another failure to allow their parents to keep pleading while their children remain in captivity.
Give Borno the same urgency you gave Oyo and #BringBornochildrenHome.
