@saccharino Yeah, it's not a bad thing, and it can be helpful in recontextualizing a friendship. Ofc, it doesn't mean it has to stay that way.
As someone who just messaged 300+ people to invite to the HS 20-year reunion, I have some recency bias, lol
@SaGa_NeilB For names that were changed later on (Harid/Khalid, Fairy/Peony, etc), is that something that would get retrofitted?
Like would ใใชใ change to ใซใชใ, for example. Or is it like Street Fighter, where the M. Bison vs Vega vs Balrog switch is too ingrained already?
@SaGa_NeilB It's nice to get nostalgic sometimes and rewatch the Re;univerSe animations: https://t.co/QkZkXifJaT
Still wish I could play the global version sometimes, but c'est la vie.
@PabloMakes There's something funny to me about the phrasing of, "You are now inflicting outrageous levels of damage!"
It feels... unintentionally comedic?
@SaGa_NeilB There is certainly a level of exoticism when it comes to this, and for better or worse, I think that's also something to consider.
JP using EN, JP using CN(ZH?), EN using JP, or even EN using Latin, are all cases where sometimes leaving something "untranslated" has that effect.
@SaGa_NeilB There's room for both, right? Overusage as "a Pokemon" can create a loss of impact, but shouting out an ability name in and of itself is essentially a kiai, and still has a place in a martial setting.
Since I've talked a lot in general terms about my approach to localization, I'd like to do a deep dive into some localization aspects of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, so you could see my approach in practice. Long thread, please share! (1/X)
@SaGa_NeilB "Spark" sounds more impactful, which is great for those boss fight moments.
I do think "Glimmer" fits the light bulb iconography a little better, and has more of a unique identity, which fits for SaGa
