Maybe you already know this speech by Adrienne Rich on witch she addresses the Gynephobia present in civil rights movements in 1977
“The meaning of our love for women is what we have constantly to expand”:

@MaxDashu I really want to get a copy of Shelley’s new memoir! I loved reading her contribution in ‘Not Dead Yet: Feminism, Passion, and Women’s Liberation.’ This recent collection from @spinifexpress is one that I often refer back to, especially in these times.

@JuliaDRobertson, among lesbian writers, have written on Stonewall. For years, they have worked to fight historical negationism, but few listen to lesbians. Humpty Dumpty’s Stonewall has erased lesbians from a movement in which they have been most vital.

@FredSargeant has stated that neither Marsha P. Johnson nor Sylvia Rivera was present at the Stonewall rebellion. Johnson even said it himself—and he often corrected Rivera, who fashioned himself a hero. Johnson’s 1992 death meant that he could no longer correct false accounts.
In a 2020 piece for @UGMediaLtd, which I am updating for my Substack, I discussed Rivera’s clear woman hating. A woman-hating man should not be regarded as a trailblazing woman—never. Excluding women’s work, Rivera’s activism was exclusionary toward women.

In 1995, Sylvia Rivera (1951-2002) spoke against the use of “lesbian and gay.” His reason was that he disliked lesbians, whom he called “gay women,” coming before gay men. On Stonewall, Rivera said “there were no gay women that were arrested,” though he was not even there.
