To make it a little more fun, we set a target letter together. If the word starts with it, we raise our hands and see who is faster. Magically, he played the game so enthusiastically with me though I played a trick by slowing my responses. He won many times. Lol
At first, I tried to teach him which letter a word starts with by asking him to repeat a few examples. He ran away with no interest at all. Then a sudden idea came to me. I ask him how about we play a game? Let’s say a word in turn, and guess what it starts with.
Yes. It is all about changing your mindset from defensive mode to curiosity mode. Instead of dwelling on the past, learning, iterating and moving forward fast.
A mark of an open mind is being more committed to your curiosity than to your convictions.
The goal of learning is not to shield old views against new facts. It's to revise old views to incorporate new facts.
Ideas are possibilities to explore, not certainties to defend.
