Why do I still tell Imperial Japan's atrocities in China and the rest of Asia even though it was 80 years ago? Here's my answer:
Because one of the worst crimes in human history occurred during WWII in Asia, is lesser known. It got neglected and even covered up, and many war criminals didn't get any punishment at all. And some, are trying to rewrite history.
Criticizing Imperial Japan's crimes doesn't mean we are blaming the current generation, criticizing politicians who deny this history doesn't mean we are blaming every Japanese person.
The picture he is using is Yukio Hatoyama (鸠山由纪夫), who is considered a long-time good friend both by the Chinese government and Chinese people. He himself apologized to those who suffered from Japan's atrocities.
Sadly he's rare among Japanese politicians. And his foreign policy like recognizing war crimes and being "soft" on China made him unpopular domestically, and some even called him "traitor."
We condemn the previous atrocities that Imperial Japan made doesn't mean we are blaming the current generations. China and Japan have a lot of exchanges economically and culturally. Some Japanese directors, musicians, artists are loved by lots of Chinese people. When musician Ryuichi Sakamoto (版本龙一) passed away, people in China were mourning his death and sharing his music. During the Beijing Winter Olympic Games 2022, a Japanese reporter called 辻冈义堂 became sententially popular in China. Fujiko·F·Fuji (藤子·F·不二雄) is my favorite Japanese cartoonist since childhood. Cases like those are countless.
Chinese people never refused to communicate and make friends with genuine, friendly Japanese people. But we also condemn those who try to rewrite history, who are denying those war crimes. We moved on, but we will never forget our history.
We brought the dark history up because it was an important chapter for us and for all mankind to remind us to not repeat it. You ask why we brought it up that many times, how about asking why they killed that many people?
War crimes in Europe are known and commemorated by people from around the world. Yet, war crimes in Asia were neglected, and covered-up. Many Japanese war criminals were immune from punishment. Few in the young generations in Japan, in North America and Europe know this history.
If you know this history, then this video is not for you. Feel free to leave, to not watch, and continue to love Japan, no one will stop you. This video is for the people who have never even heard of this history, and who don't know the details of this history.
And I will tell it as many times as I can.
China having coercive policies? Isn't NATO the one who has engaged in bloc politics and military operations around the world, threatening other countries with force and challenging the interests, security and values of the world?
No matter what Japan says, the nuclear-contaminated water cannot be turned into normal water, nor can Japan walk away from the consequences and responsibility of dumping the nuclear-contaminated water into the sea.
