Everyone knows I can't stand Carney and the Liberals. I've been yelling about it for 5 years.
But to everyone dunking on Harper for speaking at the investment summit, here's some context.
Harper chairs AIMCo, the outfit that invests Alberta's pension money. The summit was put on by Ottawa with CPP Investments and PSP Investments, the federal public service pension fund.
He has a duty to the people whose pensions he's responsible for. He has a duty to his investors.
And listen to what he actually said. He took a shot at the Trudeau years for killing our shot at being an energy superpower. Then he gave Carney credit for finally fast-tracking projects, oil sands included.

There is no world where a former Prime Minister picks a foreign leader over the sitting Prime Minister of Canada.

Doesn't matter how much he or you or I disagrees with him.
I want Carney to get crushed under the weight of his own failures. ๐ ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐. The Liberals have failed this country for too, too long.
But no conservative leader is ever going to side with Trump over our own PM. Not even Pierre mocks the Prime Minister on American soil.
Harper and Poilievre are Team Canada. Pierre even talked to Harper before this thing. The Liberals have played this masterfully. The have allowed for Trump to create a false Binary and no Conservative leader will side with another country over their own. We must accept this reality.
The problem is that the narrative has shifted and numerous interests and loyalties have converged simultaneously.
Politics has essentially been replaced with nationalism. Some of us still see the Liberals are playing politics, but we can't deny that nationalism is being used now as the overarching narrative.
The Liberals are our government, God save us. But we must remember, we aren't Americans. Americans look after the interest of Americans. We must do the same.
I personally like Trump's helter skelter way of doing business. I grew up in that cut throat world. I understand it more than many others. It's messy, confusing, destabilizing. But many do not like this style.
After all New York business men, are not businessmen from Toronto, if you know what I mean.๐คฃ
But I don't want it costing this country more than we can afford, even though the Liberals have already cost us more than Trump has in the past few years.
This isn't a pick-one situation. Two things can be true at once. You can hate the Liberals and still be pissed about what Trump is costing Canada.
And like I've said before, we wouldn't even be this exposed to Trump if the Liberals had done their jobs for the last 10 years instead of spending us into the ground.
So no, nobody should expect a conservative, let alone a former Conservative PM, to work against the country. Even if that means being on the same side as the Liberals for a day, a week, a year.
