There is nothing more painful than watching your country edge toward danger, knowing it could lead to bloodshed while dialogue fades and divisions deepen. We’ve seen this before, prevention is always better than late response. From my experience of 33+ years in Somali reconciliation, this feels like a familiar cycle.
Somalia’s political elite has often reached agreements only under external intervention. The question now is: have they matured enough to break this pattern? So far, the answer seems negative.
Therefore, stakeholder intervention is a must. Elders, businesses, civil society, and international partners must act now, through preventive diplomacy, before it’s too late.
