@historyinmemes By the united Kingdom, I assume you mean people residing in the united kingdom? I'm not sure a country can invent anything. My first thoughts of inventions by UK citizens include the safety lamp or the steam engine. Lots of UK scientists have discovered things too.
@LeeAndersonMP_ The only way you 'haven't claimed a penny' is if you have been a net contributor your whole career. That's about 40k nowadays. If you've been earning that amount and have saved into a private pension for 30+ years I don't think ยฃ300pa is going to make a big difference.
@LeachSie@luluphooey@chrismchittock Sadly not that many I fear. If everyone paid the tax they owed we would be able to pay for most things without charity. The problem is we glorify tax avoidance rather than shame it.
@luluphooey@chrismchittock You could make that argument (and some do) for not taxing at all or universal income. Trickle down economics has some benefits but giving well off pensioners more money isn't the answer.
@luluphooey Stopping universal payments is a good thing. The fuel payments should be for those that need it only. We need to wait but I bet you there is a progressive announcement in October to help those just above the threshold.
